Operation Welcome Home - Early!

We were ONLY a few feet away from Paul's proposal spot in March 2014.

We were ONLY a few feet away from Paul's proposal spot in March 2014.

There are a few times in a relationship when you are able to pull off a surprise that will leave your partner speechless.

One of those times should be the proposal and Paul managed that surprise back in March 2014 when asking Kristal to share their lives together.

Of course, the second time was an early arrival from months away from Oklahoma on duty with the US Army overseas.  It was fitting that during the planning, that was very flexible and challenging, of his surprise appearance during the St. Patrick’s Day celebration at McNellie’s.

Check out the preview of their wonderful wedding despite the raining, cold weather that day.  If you are wanting to show off your surprise skills, check out Paul’s proposal images!

Here are some images from the “Welcome Home Operation” planned between Joe, Christin, and Paul.  I may have helped a little, since I wanted this to happen in the exact place as the proposal and almost was blown when Kristal spotted me with a camera.

The Most Experienced Wedding Photographer in Oklahoma - Maybe the World!

This is not a title to be taken lightly, in fact, I’m honored to have the most experience and all my fellow photographers agree with this claim. This helps me pass along some great information to grooms - and the bride - that could elevate your day from great to incredible.  This post will touch on the groom’s responsibilities because after so many weddings, I’m getting tired of the joke regarding the importance of his part during the wedding planning.  Traditionally, the groom’s duties are varied and specific when it comes to wedding planning and the day’s events.  These range from selecting the engagement ring, arranging reception toasts to carry the bride across the threshold.  While many of these have been modernized with the changing times, there are a few that the groom needs to step up to take ownership.  I hope you are viewing the relationship with that significant other as a partnership versus the standard “ball & chain” analogy.  Be involved in the planning stages of this public display of affection and be more than just another party decoration at the reception.  Grooms matter on the wedding day.

Wishing Well Proposal + TJ and Jessica

Wishing Well Proposal + TJ and Jessica

Meeting with wedding couples before they retain us for their special day is important.  We can observe interactions, talk about hopes and dreams, then some chat on planning the perfect execution of this public display of affection.  TJ & Jessica's proposal falls directly into the romantic category with some groom planning the right moment to ask.

Jessica recounted their story that will inspire other grooms' actions.  Thanks again!

It was my birthday and Tj had flown in a few days prior so that he would be able to come to Disneyland with my family and I. The day started off beautifully, we had breakfast at my favorite restaurant! Bananas foster French toast is the best birthday breakfast. I noticed he was kind of acting strange towards me but I didn't know why so Itried to ignore it. we spent the day celebrating with my family and some friends who joined us for my birthday as well. He let me pick what we did for the entire day for my birthday, he's pretty great like that. He had been telling me for weeks he had the best birthday present ever and couldn't wait to surprise me! if you know me, you'd know I hate surprises, so I tried to ignore him saying those words all day.

As the evening started to roll in he asked if I wanted to watch the fireworks (something we normally skip) so I decided yes since I had not watched them since I was a kid. we found our spot right by the Alice in Wonderland ride since we had a perfect view of the sky. We sat and watched as the show went on and once it finished he asked for me to go with him to Snow Whites Wishing Well so I could make a birthday wish. As we started walking and getting closer I noticed he started shaking and getting really nervous and didn't understand why so once again I just tried to ignore it. Once we arrived at the Wishing Well we saw it was filled with people, but as we got closer, one by one everyone started to disappear. He handed me a penny and told me to close my eyes and make a wish and not to open my eyes until he told me I could, so I went along. I threw in my penny, made my silent wish and kept my eyes closed, and finally, he told me to open them. When I opened them, I found him, on his knee with the ring box in hand and he looked at me and told me how much he loved me and then asked me to marry him. With tears starting to fill my eyes I excitedly said absolutely yes! He took aside and put the ring on my hand and when I got a closer look, I realized it was a ring I had been so in love with but didn't want him to spend the money on it. I was completely in shock and so in love. Every day I spent with him since this day has been just as magical and I am so thankful I remember that day like it was yesterday.

Here are some images from their e-session and wedding day.

Surprise in Kansas City with Mike & Stephanie

Mike really knows how to pull out all the stops to impress Steph.  And yes, I did tear up a little reading a few lines of this note he gave her on the wedding day.  Wow!

Mike really knows how to pull out all the stops to impress Steph.  And yes, I did tear up a little reading a few lines of this note he gave her on the wedding day.  Wow!

This isn't going to be a long post because there is no need.  When you are Mike Hutchinson and he plans to surprise the love of a lifetime, you bring on TV News Crew and film it!  Check out the video for the casual stroll and "setup" for Stephanie.

This is the description on the Mike's YouTube channel:

Mike surprised Stephanie by inviting 30 friends and family to the Kansas City Country Club Plaza on January 9, 2010. They first went to dinner with her sister and her boyfriend. They told Stephanie that they were going to walk to dinner on the opposite end of the Plaza. On the way, they stopped to take photos at the fountain outside of Eddie Baur. To Stephanie's surprise, friends and family were waiting... to Mike's surprise, a news camera was also waiting.

Roll the video!

We would love to feature your future or past proposal on the website.  I'm sure that Mike is an inspiration for all grooms.  Tell us your story and help other grooms succeed - cause Grooms Lifes Matter!

GROOMS - Step it Up and Surprise a Bride2Be

Paul proposed with a tent full of friends during St. Patrick's Day party in Oklahoma City.  Even with me dodging her line of sight during the "right" song, Kristal had no clue.  Check out her reaction.

I'm Talking to YOU

This post is aimed squarely at the boyfriends crossing the rainbow over to “fiancé” status.  I’m telling you to step it up when the proposal time comes along.  And you already know what I’m talking about since you are hanging around the internet looking for ideas, suggestions or the “right” time to pop the question.  Oh, my… I really hope you are not searching Pinterest for a way to make it more special for her.  Dude!  Your head will explode.  Resist the urge!

I was blessed to have a consultation meeting last night with a couple getting married in July.  The bride previously told me that the groom is quiet and reserved.  My first thought was “Here is another guy that knew the time was coming close to make his long-term intentions known OR he figured out its best to snag this girl quickly before any of his buddies noticed how wonderful she is”.  Surprise!  I was wrong, oh so wrong.

So we get to the local question of “How did he propose?”.  This comes right after the “How did you two meet?” and “What do you both do for fun together?”.  No, I don’t have a script but I love to know about the couple’s personality, hobbies, passions, etc.  Grooms rarely get asked those questions, but the new Bride2Be will be asked plenty of times, even after the wedding.  So the story better be a good one.  Wait, no… a GREAT story!

The Groom Speaks!

We were a little surprised when the bride let the groom tell the story.  You know what… Let’s use their names, ‘cause I’m proud to know them and they should already know how I operate.  I’m not passing up a chance to share a great story.  So, Becca tells Cody to tell the story.

“So I got this pink cheap tackle box and put the ring box inside.  Gave it to her at our favorite fishing hole…”  The story starts and Cody perks up with a twinkle in his eyes of love, caring and lots of “I’m Da Man!”  I was already drawn into the story picturing her moment of surprise at seeing this jewelry box in a mess of fishing lures, hooks, and accessories.  My emotions quickly turned to laughter when Cody explains how intrigued Becca was over the included fishing pliers!  “She kept talking about how cool these things are... " and in his mind thoughts are spinning. Did she NOT see the BOX?  Put the toys down and open the ring box!

Of course, she finally discovered the ring and said YES.  We laughed so hard that I’m positive everyone around us in the coffee shop thought we lost our minds.  It was a story told with caring emotion filled with love, joy, and a surprise.  It’s the kind of story they will tell the grandkids to inspire them to “Step It Up” and every Bride2Be deserves a little surprise in life.

My Crazy Idea

Now comes this crazy idea, because if you follow me then you are expecting something in that direction.  We want to hear more proposal stories and we want to help every groom surprise their Bride2BE.  I want to have some inspiration from past grooms that have moved over the moon to the husband realm of relationships.  I want to be able to share those stories here so if you are thinking of popping that special question to your gal, YOU will have a great story to tell.

Here is your chance to shine.  Tell us your story of what happened or, better yet, your plans to ask her.  Don’t leave out any details!  We will share them on our blog for others to draw proposal ideas.  Click the button below to get started.

We want to help grooms succeed in the quest to recreate “The Great Story” that Trawick Images will shoot your proposal for FREE.  No strings attached.  No contract, no crazy hoops to jump through. Not going to try and sell you anything later.  I will gift you the digital files. If we are available during your proposal event, we will “sneak” around and capture it for FREE.  Seriously.

One last thing, if you are wondering about the pics on this post of Paul's proposal to Kristal, we will have their great story posted very soon.  We have so many wonderful past proposals and look forward to sharing ideas with you so you can “Step It Up!”
