PBX PhotoWalk - Las Vegas, NV

Join us at PhotoBooth Expo in Las Vegas!

It’s time to let your Photo Booth cameras out of their cages! Join us on this social photowalk spiked with a little photography learning.

Our special guest leader this year is Robert Trawick, the most experienced wedding photographer in Oklahoma and lighting connoisseur. He loves to laugh, tell jokes and drink coffee along with demonstrating an easy to understand approach of lighting on location. The Las Vegas strip is a cornucopia of humanity so you can be positive to have some interesting characters to shoot. Then again, maybe we can bring a model or two for practice!

We will start our adventure in the Key Seminar Room 1 for a quick intro before heading out on the monorail. Our first stop will be “Bally’s & Paris Station” and a short walk to the Eiffel Tower and the iconic Fountains of Bellagio. This will be a great time with play with an extreme wide-angle lens for the views and a medium telephoto for environmental portraits. We will talk about “dragging the shutter” technique with flash for background and motion.

We will head back to the “Bally’s & Paris Station” for a short monorail trip to “MGM Grand” and a block away from the crossover bridge to New York - New York. On the bridge over Las Vegas Blvd, we have an excellent view of the strip and cityscape. It will time to get creative creating backdrop images using hyper-focus distance and bokeh with long focal length lenses. Of course, adding a splash of flash never hurts either with people photos overlooking the bustling traffic below.

The last stop will be the wonderful Statue of Liberty and time to answer all your questions from the trip or review any demo techniques. We are aiming to end around 8pm and you can take advantage of the crosswalk system to head over to the Tropicana to enjoy the Mobile Beat Show.

Bring your favorite camera, lenses, flash and tripod. Please dress according to your needs for the local conditions. Some people are happy in shorts and t-shirt at 50 degrees, while others need an arctic jumper suit to stay war. Don’t forget your comfortable walking shoes, but choosing to wear “fashionable” heeled boots or 6” stilettos will garner extra praise and attention. When in doubt, be sure to contact Robert directly with questions and/or creative images of the heels.

Crazy Train PhotoWalk - OKC to Fort Worth, TX

Twins_001.jpg

The FotoFacts Twins, Rob & Jim, are taking an unusual PhotoWalk to Fort Worth, Texas on Sunday morning after PhotoCon.  This is a great way to end your weekend of inspiration, education and incredible trade show.

We will meet at the newly remodeled Santa Fe Depot station in Oklahoma City at 8:00 am to grab the Heartland Flyer to Fort Worth, Texas.  If you wish to join us from another city, the train stops in Norman, Purcell, Pauls Valley, Ardmore, and Gainesville.

While on the train, we will be pushing out a LIVE FotoFacts episode to recap Bedford PhotoCon, answer photography questions and discuss current issues.  We are hoping to get permission from Amtrak to have an impromptu hands-on camera control class.  Because of baggage restrictions, this class will focus on what you can bring on board the train.  It will be geared towards solving lighting and exposure issues on a moving subject without backup support systems.  We are looking forward to seeing what selection of equipment shooters choose to carry.

We arrive in Fort Worth at 12:30 pm to be greeted by our Texas host, Xavier & Patrice from Photos on the Vine - the ultimate place for education and studio rental in the area.  This dynamic duo will be bringing Interfit Photographic lighting, XP PhotoGear modifiers, and Vanguard USA tripods for our group to use during the visit.

During our day escape from Oklahoma, we will “work” a small area of this famous downtown.  The city blocks surrounding the train station are filled with the hidden alleyways, tall buildings, wonderful architecture, and urban life.  We will focus on the stunning Water Gardens, St. Patrick Cathedral, and Convention Center.  Armed with equipment from our support staff, you will sure to create wonderful images to build your portfolio.

The train leaves promptly at 5:25 pm for the return back to Oklahoma City by 9:27 pm.  This will get you another chance to socialize and recoup from the day’s activities.  Don’t forget, this can be an incredible time to capture some onboard portraits of fellow photographers while enjoying no driving back to the city.

IF you are riding the train from OKC to Fort Worth - Be sure to purchase your tickets ahead of time!  Cost and details of the Heartland Flyer are available on Amtrak.com.  Choose UPPER LEVEL when booking your ticket!

Blinding Light Workshops - Location Edition

Here is Part Deux of the Blind Lighting series where we are taking the challenge to the streets of Handley.  We are not sure if Rob & Terri will be aware of the model/subject for the evening workshop, but instead of indoors they will work in the dark of night.  Rob will guide you in an easy to understand technique during this hands-on location shoot where you play an integral part of the final image.  You will also get Terri’s posing tips & tricks to minimize any subject’s perceived flaws and show their best for the camera.

You will have a front-row seat to the wildest demonstration of a photographer’s skill and talent as they craft a portrait of the subject with your help in TWO hours.  And since we know Robert loves to talk, the clock will be ticking the moment he takes the floor, helping him focus on the ticking clock.  When we talk about helping, we are saying you will be hands-on assisting during the shoot.  The whole class will collaborate thru the idea, the planning and shooting of the portrait.  One of the most effective ways to learn is working together on a common project.

Robert and “his team” (that’s you!) will have two hours to craft the image using only what is available on location or loaded in their car.  Since you are part of the team, we ask that each person bring their camera, favorite lens, a battery powered light or flash and ONE crazy prop / item that could get used in the styling of the session.  Be creative and use your imagination but nothing larger than a carry-on suitcase.

The Trawicks are supported by the fine providers of photographic gear that will make this event possible.

Blinding Light Workshops - Studio Edition

Get ready for a learning experience like no other.  We are bringing you the talented team of Trawick Images from Oklahoma City in the new “Blinding Light Workshop” to help you understand lighting.  Rob will guide you in an easy to understand technique during this hands-on studio shoot where you play an integral part of the final image.  You will also get Terri’s posing tips & tricks to minimize any subject’s perceived flaws and show their best for the camera.

Arlington Camera is teaming up with Photos on The Vine in providing an educator’s worst nightmare for the Trawicks and you can be there to learn firsthand how this dynamic duo work in real life photography portrait scenario.  The hidden key to this new workshop series is our educators are not aware of the type of subject, model, clothing, styling, etc.  They will not even know if the subject is human!

Robert shoe shopping for a project shoot in Dallas with ChaeAnn

Looking to kick off the Professional Photographers of Oklahoma Convention with an early get-together?  Here is your chance to shoot, laugh, learn or just relax with fellow photographers.

The plan is very simple, will bring out lighting equipment and models for you to learn, practice and shoot.  It will be a great time to get your photographic questions answered with practical hands on demonstration from PPOk talented educators.

Just make things interesting, we will have the first ever Kerr Park Model Dash.  You know this was Robert's idea since he is curious to find out "How fast can a model run in high heels?".  This should be one for the history books.  So get out your favorite heels (4" minimum) and get ready to sprint for a prize.  We hope it's not a trip to the ER and a cast! LOL

We will have equipment from Interfit Photographic, Vanguard tripods, XP PhotoGear and Spider Camera Holster. We will be reaching out to other vendors and photographers for participation.

PJs & Pixels - Boobs, Boys & Bokeh

PJs & Pixels - Boobs, Boys and Bokeh

Get ready to laugh and learn in a casual "Girls' Morning" surrounded by comfortable PJs, good coffee and bagels with the talented boudoir photographer, Terri Trawick - Audacious Images.

Even though women outnumber the male counterpart in professional photography, we learn differently and are consistently criticized for our equipment choices more than our creative skills. Add in the multiple roles of mother, wife, girlfriend, or even grandmother to the long list of duties as a professional and the "job" can be overwhelming. The struggle is real.

Terri will review the top 10 things to know as a professional to help you succeed, as well, as dispel photography myths that hinder our happiness. She will explain some of the best bokeh gear, girlie gorilla marketing, and secrets to boudoir business. How about learning the easiest way to shoot with flash? Yeah, it’s covered and takes less than 10 minutes to review.

I encourage you to wear your favorite PJs but remember that we are still in a public place so go for loose and comfortable. Bring your favorite morning drink or enjoy some great coffee we will provide with some bagels. Boys are welcome to attend in a special "cry room" in the back. You might just find a pearl or two learning how women think. Girl Shooters Rule!

2017 PhotoWalk with SWPPA Convention

Lights, Camera, Tripod WALK

Have you ever sat quietly during an inspiring speaker just itching to go outside and practice the techniques learned? If you are thinking to yourself “Yes! That happens all the time” - then we have the cure. And we will throw in some easy cardio workout for free!

Join Robert and crew for the social photography event of the convention. We will start with a funny spirited introduction outside the hotel entrance before beginning our Photo Walk Safari hoping to spot fabulous models and maybe some “steel” horses. The walk will happen regardless of the weather, just like if you had to shoot to stay on schedule with clients. In fact, some of the most dramatic images will be created when you choose to work “outside the box” or your comfort zone in difficult lighting or weather. Of course, your safety is paramount, so we will stay indoors if the lighting strikes are within 3 miles or a tornado is spotted a few blocks away. You are in Oklahoma Dorothy.

We will discuss lighting on the go using the InterFit Photographic systems, modified by XP PhotoGear Speedboxes while stabilized on a Vanguard USA tripod. This is the gear Robert uses daily for everything from commercial to portraits and from “dragging the shutter” to “High Speed Sync”. Regardless of what camera brand you choose to use, Robert has a solution for your shooting problems.

Bring your favorite camera, lenses, flash and tripod. Please dress according to your needs for the local conditions. Some people are happy in shorts and t- shirt at 50 degrees, while others need an arctic jumper suit to stay war. Don’t forget your comfortable walking shoes, but choosing to wear “fashionable” heeled boots or 6” stilettos will garner extra praise and attention. When in doubt, be sure to contact Robert directly with questions and/or creative images of the heels.
